In a system and apparatus, compressed air is used as an energy source and supplied from a safe area through pipes to turbine generator modules in a hazardous area, each turbine generator module being attached or otherwise coupled to supply power to a field device. The field device communicates with control intelligence, e.g. a control center, by cable or wireless connection. Data communication cables may be imbedded into compressed air pipe extending from the field device to provide data to the safe environment or a distribution center. Devices with compressed air entering enclosures may use the pressure of the air to prevent the ingress of an explosive atmosphere to the enclosures. Interface circuitry and a turbine generator module may be included in a field device. In a turbine generator module, a turbine rotor may be connected to a generator axle and be supported by a generator bearing. In another form, alignment may be achieved by placing the generator upstream and having the turbine stator fixed to the generator for alignment. |
