PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus etc., for more surely focusing on an object while reducing power consumption. SOLUTION: A digital camera 1 is provided with a luminance information operation part 24 for obtaining image luminance information, an edge calculation part 23 for obtaining image edge information, a movement detecting part 26 for detecting the movement of the object based on the presence or absence of a change in the luminance information, a movement detecting part 25 for detecting the movement of the object in a distance direction based on a change in the edge information, and a focus control part 29 for continuously or intermittently performing a focus control with the drive of a photographic lens based on the detection results of the movement detecting parts 25 and 26. The driving of the photographic lens to perform the focus control is stopped by the focus control part 29 when the movement of the object is not detected by the movement detecting part 26, on the other hand, when the movement of the object is detected by the movement detecting parts 25 and 26, the photographic lens is driven to perform the focus control.
