PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a friction material and a method for producing the same, in which consideration can be given to environmental protection and the health of operators and production cost can be reduced without using any organic solvent or inorganic solvent. SOLUTION: A flowable polymer having a viscosity of 900-600,000 cps and a predetermined flowability at room temperature in itself is contained in a solid rubber to form a mixture (with a mixing ratio of the flowable polymer to the solid rubber being about 10-70% by weight). The mixture is stuck to a substrate fiber by impregnation or extrusion, and the resulting material is formed to a predetermined shape to provide the friction material. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
