PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a diamond cutting tool, restraining abrasion of a tool and breakage of a knife edge in machining ferrous metal, and mirror-finishing the shape of a metal mold required in manufacturing a metal mold of ferrous metal. SOLUTION: This single crystal diamond cutting tool is obtained by making a thin film made of one or more kinds of materials selected from a group of TiC, Ti (C, N), TiAlN and Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>adhere to a flank and a cutting surface directly or through a Tic layer, thereby forming a coated layer preferably having a thickness of 0.01 to 2μm and a surface roughness Rmax of 0.001 to 0.1μm.
