PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a container for holding half-molten metal the plastic deformation of which is suppressed within a prescribed allowable limit and which makes repeated use over a long period possible, and to provide a method of preventing its deformation. SOLUTION: The truncated conic-shaped holding container used for producing half-molten metal in a solid-liquid coexistent state is provided with a lower part having a bottom part and an upper part having an opening part. The diameter of the holding container gradually increases from the lower part toward the upper part.
