PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control valve type lead acid storage battery excellent in reliability by preventing cracks and deformations at a positive electrode shelf in the battery in which a Pb-Ca-Sn alloy excellent in a corrosion resistance is used as a positive electrode grid and a Pb-Sn alloy excellent in weldability with a current collecting lug is used as the shelf. SOLUTION: A positive electrode plate 1 has a cast grid made of Pb-Ca-Sn alloy containing Sn of≥1.6 mass%, and when the summation of cross-sectional areas of longitudinal ribs 5a, 5b arranged in a longitudinal direction of the grid is set to S1 and the summation of cross-sectional areas of transverse ribs 6a, 6b arranged in a transverse direction of the grid is set to S2, the ratio (S1/(S1+S2)) is set to≥0.45, the ratio (S3/S4) between the cross-sectional area (S3) of the positive electrode shelf to collectively weld a positive current collecting lug portion 3 and the summation (S4) of the cross-sectional area of the lug portion 3 is set to≥0.60, and the positive electrode shelf is composed of the Pb-Sn alloy containing Sn of≥2.2 mass%.
