PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrochemical display device which can obtain high-speed response and reduce temperature dependency of a response speed, and to provide an electrolyte used therefor. SOLUTION: A 1st electrode 15 and a 2nd electrode 16 are arranged opposite each other across an electrolyte 13. The electrolyte 13 contains, for example, a solvent, metal salt, and various additives. As the solvent, sulfoxide such as dimethylsulfoxide and cyclic carboxylate such asγ-butyrolactone are mixed and used. The solvent is used preferably while propylene carbonate is mixed.
