PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vertical magnetic recording medium which has good recording property and thermal fluctuation resistance, in which high density recording can be performed, and which has high reliability for long period data holding, and a magnetic storage device. SOLUTION: The vertical magnetic recording medium has such constitution that has a substrate 11, and a soft magnetic backing layer 12, a non-magnetic seed layer 13, a soft magnetic seed layer 14, a non-magnetic intermediate layer 15, a recording lamination body 16, a protecting layer 18, and a lubrication layer 19 formed successively on the substrate 11, and the recording lamination body 16 has such constitution that a first non-magnetic layer 16B<SB>1</SB>, a first magnetic layer 16A<SB>1</SB>, a second non-magnetic layer 16B<SB>2</SB>, and a second magnetic layer 16A<SB>2</SB>are laminated successively by epitaxial growth. Magnitude of vertical magnetic anisotropy is increased and its dispersion is made narrow by causing grid mismatching at boundary of the second non-magnetic layer 16B<SB>2</SB>and the second magnetic layer 16A<SB>2</SB>.
