PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an inexpensive disk drive capable of detecting a head position at an inner circumferential side of a disk and an outer circumferential side of the disk. SOLUTION: This disk drive is provided with a base 1 of the disk drive, an optical head 7 for accessing a disk-shaped recording medium 2 to record and reproduce information, an optical head driving means 100 for moving the optical head in the directions of the inner and outer circumferential sides of the disk-shaped recording medium 2, a first position detecting part 9 and a second position detecting part 10 provided on the base 1, a position detection element which is provided in the optical head 7, is made to move together with the optical head 7, detects the first position detecting part 9 in a first detection area at the disk inner circumferential side, detects the second position detecting part 10 in a second detection area at the disk outer circumferential side, does not detect the position detecting parts in an area between the first and second detection areas and outputs a detection signal showing whether the position detecting parts are detected, and an optical head driving control means for controlling the optical head driving means 100 on the basis of the detection signal.
