PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a negative ion generator which can improve the combustion efficiency of an internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: The negative ion generator 1 contains quartz, feldspar, chlorite and amphibole as mineral and thalium, potassium, lead and bismuth as radioisotope and includes mixed mineral containing yttrium, cerium, neodymium and thorium as rare-earth elements. For example, the generator 1 is so constituted that aβ-ray radiation layer 5 is formed by evaporating the powder ofβ-ray radiation mixed mineral and a binder onto one side of a plate material 3. Since the generator 1 mainly radiatesβrays, consequently, it can generate negative ions and can improve the combustion efficiency through the agency of the generated negative ions.
