PURPOSE: A steering system for a vehicle is provided to improve driver's convenience by suppressing shimmy of a steering wheel. CONSTITUTION: A steering system for a vehicle comprises a steering wheel(50); a pinion gear rotating integrally with a steering shaft transmitting the steering force of the steering wheel; a rack gear(56) engaging with the pinion gear and converting a rotary motion of the steering wheel into a right and left motion; links each installed to the right and left ends of the rack gear and between right and left front wheels, to control the steering according to the operation of the steering wheel; and shimmy dampers(60,70,80) increasing right and left friction force of the rack gear and suppressing shimmy if shimmy in the rotating direction occurs in the steering wheel.
