A barrier closing control system

A barrier system comprises a motor connected to the barrier to open and close it. The energising 173 of the motor is controlled by a controller such that the barrier remains open for a predetermined time interval 161. Apparatus 165 is disclosed that inhibits the closing of the barrier after the predetermined time period has elapsed. The apparatus 165 may be responsive to human interaction. The apparatus may end the execution of the timed period, or may reset the timed period. The apparatus may further allow reactivation of the timed period. Further disclosed is a method of stopping the barrier at an intermediate position between open and closed. A switch is provided that allows the motor direction to be manually controlled. The time that the barrier remains open is preset by an operator.
