Preventives and remedies for complications of diabetes

Preventives and remedies for complications of diabetes which contain as the active ingredients compounds of formula (I) or lactone derivatives thereof are disclosed, wherein R represents an organic group; X represents CH2CH2- or CH=CH-; and M represents hydrogen, C1-10 alkyl or a physiologically acceptable cationic group. These drugs are useful in preventing and treating complications of diabetes such as diabetic nephropathy, diabetic neuropathy, diabetic retinopathy and diabetic angiopathy.
