To drive a pile (1) into place, underground or at a ground surface for construction, a steel pipe (2) is used which is closed at one end, with at least one outflow or flushing opening (5.2) as a flushing sleeve (4) for a flushing medium, radially offset from the longitudinal axis (L) of the pipe. The axis (AS) of the flushing opening is below the closed end of the pipe, and forms an angle (alpha ) with the longitudinal pipe axis of =90[deg] to open towards the other end of the pipe.
