PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problems of an unsharp mask wherein no consideration is given to the direction of sharpness enhancement in a color space to allow noise to degrade the quality of a display image, and the control of the degree of enhancement, which is by such weighting of a high frequency component as suppresses generation of lightness variation and partial saturation, leaves the determination of the value of high frequency component weighting to experience in enhancement processing to cause a complicated processing method. SOLUTION: When an input image is displayed on a display 103, a parameter is determined from at least either information on a subject included in the input image or information on the display displaying the input image. With the determined parameter, color distribution is controlled on a first principal component axis obtained by a principal component analysis in a color space.
