Agent for serological diagnosis of Candida albicans endo:mycosis - contg. polysaccharide-free protein extract from Candida albicans

New agents for the serological diagnosis of endomycoses caused by Candida albicans comprise a polysaccharide-free protein extract from yeast fungi of the family C. albicans. The protein extract pref. contains (A) a protein with mol. wt. of 85,000, an isoelectric point of 4.25 and a density of 1.27 g/cm3 and/or (B) a protein with mol. wt. 95,000, an isoelectric point of 4.65 and a density of 1.27 g/cm3. The polysaccharide-free protein extract is a specific antigen, and antibodies to it are found in patients with endomycosis but not in patients with mycoses of the mucous membranes or normal subjects. The new agents thus permit differentiation between endomycoses and mucosal infections with C. albicans.
