PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle detector for detecting a vehicle with precision by reducing cases where the vehicle is hardly detected. SOLUTION: The vehicle detector 1a detecting the vehicle 200 passing a monitor range on a road 100 includes a sensor part 2 having a plurality of thermo-pile elements 3a, 3b for sensing an IR, which is emitted by the vehicle 200, from the side part of the road 100. A plurality of monitor ranges 3A, 3B are provided for one lane, based on the thermo-pile elements, so as to detect one vehicle by a plurality of elements 3a, 3b. With this configuration, the possibility of passage of a part of the vehicle 200 which generates a temperature difference from the temperature of the road 100 is enhanced at least in one of the monitor ranges 3A, 3B.
