PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent changes by user's own means and to enable a program in an image forming apparatus to be updated by a regular program which is guaranteed by a manufacturer. SOLUTION: This control method of an image forming apparatus which is connected to a host machine so as to able to communicate and which provides a storing part storing a first program for controlling the imaging operation is provided with a receiving process which receives an encoded program that is a second program to control the image forming operation and transmitted from the host machine; a decoding process which decodes the received encoded second program; and a rewriting process which rewrites the program stored in the storing part by the second program decoded, by the decoding process. Consequently, in this imaging apparatus, the user's own changes are prevented and a nonconformities of the imaging apparatus in which the regular program guaranteed by the manufacturer is updated being unable to be offered is dissolved.
