PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording medium carrying device capable of preventing lowering of quality of image due to the generation of missing images in recorded images. SOLUTION: This recording medium carrying device is provided with a pinching force changing means formed of a pair of upstream side carrying rollers 22 and 23 for pinching the recording medium P to intermittently carry it and an arm 26 provided with a driven roller 23 for changing the pinching force of the pair of upstream side carrying rollers 22 and 23, and a detection value means formed of a sensor 38 for detecting out of the recording medium P from pinch by the pair of upstream side carrying rollers 22 and 23 when next intermittent carrying is performed.
