<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an evaluation method and an evaluation system that can detect variations in characteristics in an optical recording medium due to imperfection in a manufacturing process and can perform evaluation over a wide range. <P>SOLUTION: The evaluation system comprises an optical pickup head (PUH) 2; an amplifier 3 for amplifying a reproduction signal read via the optical pickup head 2; an A/D converter 4 for converting the reproduction signal amplified by the amplifier 3 to a digital signal; and a processor 5a for numerically processing a reproduction waveform A/D-converted by the A/D converter 4. The processor 5a has an amplitude data acquisition module 41; a statistic processing module 42a, and a comparison determination module 43.
