摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the efficiency of utilizing transmission light in transmission type display without lowering the brightness of image display in reflection type display with an electro-optical device of a transreflective type, for example, a liquid crystal display. <P>SOLUTION: A substrate 10 for the liquid crystal device, i.e. a substrate for an electro-optical device, has a translucent base material 11, a reflection layer 12 which is formed on the base material 11 and has a reflection section 12r and a transmission section 12a having the transmittance higher than the transmittance thereof, a translucent layer 25 which is formed on the base material 11 in superposition on the reflection layer 12 and has a depression 25a in a position flatly superposed on the transmission section 12a and an alignment layer 17 which is formed on the base material 11 in superposition on the translucent layer 25 and forms a recess 10a by intruding into the depression 25a.
