PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a facsimile system capable of transmitting or receiving various image data, regardless of the performance of a facsimile unit to be used. SOLUTION: In a facsimile system, a facsimile unit 1 is connected to a telephone line for transmitting an image signal taken in a memory unit for transmission to a counterpart's facsimile unit, and at least one or more image input devices 3 of different performance each other for reading a manuscript are connected via an information processing device 2 and a network. A selecting means 11 selects one of the image input devices, and a control means 23 directs the selected image input device to read a manuscript with a data format in conformity to information about a format used in transmission with the counterpart's facsimile unit acquired by the facsimile unit. While a transmission means 24 takes image data of the manuscript read by the selected image input device into an image memory unit, the transmission means 24 transfers the image data in the image memory unit to the facsimile unit on the occasion of facsimile transmission.
