PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a molecular dispersion type organic EL element and organic EL display capable of achieving all at a high level heat resistance, a long life, and luminous efficiency. SOLUTION: Of the organic EL element provided with a base plate, an electrode layer, an organic layer, and an electrode layer, the organic layer is to contain a vinyl polymer obtained by polymerizing polymeric monomers containing compounds expressed in formula (1) or (2). Here in the formulae, L<SP>1</SP>and L<SP>2</SP>denote each a bivalent group, X<SP>1</SP>, X<SP>2</SP>, X<SP>3</SP>, X<SP>4</SP>, X<SP>5</SP>and X<SP>6</SP>may be the same or different and denote, respectively, an alkyl group, alkoxy group, aryl group, aryloxy group, heterocyclic group, amino group, or cyano group, a and e denote 0 or 1, respectively, b, f, g, and h denote each an integer from 0 to 3, c an integer from 0 to 2, d an integer from 0 to 4, and substituents constituting a fluoranthene ring bonded with a carbon atom may bond with each other to form a ring.
