The clamping device uses clamping balls (5) and the actuating ring (4) directly adjoins on the inside the clamping balls. The ring has either an internal thread (22) corresponding to that (14) of the clamping nut (2) and set in front of the nut axially away from the object (6) being clamped, or is in threaded engagement with the nut. The actuating ring has axially spaced relative to each other on one side a radially inwardly directed collar (25) which engages over a bearing face of the nut pointing away from the pressure ring (3), and on the other side a radially inwardly directed ring attachment (26) which engages over a bearing face of the pressure ring pointing away from the tension flange (16) of the nut. The distance between ring collar and ring attachment in the fixed tensioned state is greater than the distance between the two bearing faces so that the actuating ring adjoins at the ends of the adjustment path by its ring collar against the bearing face of th e clamping nut or by its ring attachment against the pressure ring bearing face (28).
