PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a droplet discharge device and a method for detecting a discharge abnormality of a droplet discharge head that detects a discharge abnormality of the droplet discharge head by counting reference pulses occurring during a prescribed period after droplet discharge operation. SOLUTION: The droplet discharge device has a plurality of droplet discharge heads having a vibrating plate and an actuator displacing the vibrating plate, a driving circuit driving the actuator, a pulse generation means generating the reference pulses, a subtraction counter 45 subtracting the reference pulses occurring during a prescribed period and a discharge abnormality detection means detecting a droplet discharge abnormality based on a counted value of the counter during a prescribed period.
