The system has a field bus, alternating power supply, terminating resistance and at least one field bus device connected to the bus. The power supply is connected to a first bus end and the terminating resistance is connected to the other end to match the characteristic impedance. A monitoring circuit determines the magnitude of waves reflected to the supply and regulates the supply depending on reflection factor if it exceeds a desired value. The system has a field bus (2), a power supply (3) producing a periodic alternating signal, a terminating resistance (7) and at least one field bus device (4) connected to the bus, whereby the power supply is connected to a first end of the bus and the terminating resistance is connected to the other end to match the characteristic impedance. A reflection factor monitoring circuit (9) determines the magnitude of the waves reflected to the power supply and regulates the power supply depending on the reflection factor if it exceeds a desired value.
