<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for preventing the lag-down of an engine for a construction machine which can carry out the more accurate control of pump torque when an operation apparatus has been operated from a non-operated state where the rotational speed of the engine is held at a required low speed. <P>SOLUTION: The apparatus for preventing the lag-down of the engine for the construction machine comprises a vehicle body controller 13 and an electromagnetic valve 16, etc., the vehicle body controller 13 makes the pump torque a small value Tp1 corresponding to a low rotational speed n1 in the case of a non-operated state where an engine rotational speed is controlled at the required low rotational speed n1, and composes a torque control means for controlling a torque control valve 7 so as to continually hold the pump torque to be the small value Tp1 for a required holding time T when an operating apparatus 5 has been operated from a non-operated state.
