PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrolyte for an electrolytic capacitor which has a high breakdown voltage, good leak current characteristics at high temperatures and good high-temperature life characteristics. SOLUTION: Polyhydric alcohol complex compound of boric acid or a salt thereof obtained from boric acid and polyhydric alcohol is by one or more sorts dissolved into a solvent containing mainly ethylene glycol to obtain an electrolyte, and 12-vinyl-8-octanedecenedioate or salt thereof is added in the electrolyte.
