Biological treatment of waste material by passing air through the material comprises concentrating combustible substances in the air and burning them. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) apparatus for the biological treatment of waste material, comprising: (a) a container for the waste material; (b) an air inlet; (c) an outlet for waste air; (d) a system for concentrating combustible substances in the air; and (e) a combustion unit; (2) an installation comprising several apparatus as in (1) and a common manifold for collecting waste air from the apparatus.
