<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hardly ignitable activated carbon showing excellent heat conductivity in an activated carbon layer formed by packing with activated carbon, to provide a method for manufacturing the hardly ignitable activated carbon advantageous from the viewpoint of manufacture, and to provide a method for processing waste gas and a method for measuring the heat conductivity of the activated carbon layer. <P>SOLUTION: The hardly ignitable activated carbon has ≥100 m<SP>2</SP>/g specific surface area. Its packing density is obtained by automatically charging a 100 mL graduated cylinder with the activate carbon at a 0.75 to 1.0 mL /sec feeding rate through a funnel to the 100 mL mark line by using a vibrator, drying in a temperature controlled drier at 115±5°C for 3 hours, leaving to cool in a desiccator and measuring the mass. When a layer of the activated carbon is prepared by charging a container with the activate carbon to the above packing density, the heat conductivity of the activated carbon layer is ≥0.14 W/m×K. The heat conductivity of an activated carbon layer is obtained by measuring the packing density of the activated carbon, charging a container with the activated carbon to obtain the packing density to form an activated carbon layer, and measuring the heat conductivity by a heat ray method using a heat conductivity meter. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
