PURPOSE: A network device capable of controlling traffic is provided to finely set an amount of traffic in accordance with each port within a maximum value range supported by a switching processor, regardless of whether the switching process supports a rate limit function. CONSTITUTION: A switching processor(500) consists of plural ports(540) for accessing a network line and packet counter registers(510) for recording counting information of ingress/egress packets through each port(540), and controls a traffic processing of the ingress/egress packets according to an inputted traffic control command. A switching controller(400) sets an amount of traffic in accordance with the ports(540) to user values in a memory(410), reads the packet counter registers(510) to compare the read registers(510) with the user values, and outputs the traffic control command to the switching processor(500) according to compared results. |
