PURPOSE: A device for operating a camera of a portable terminal is provided to install the first input/output terminal in a camera mounting hole, and to install the second input/output terminal in a camera combined with the camera mounting hole, thereby easily selecting a photographing mode of the camera. CONSTITUTION: The first input/output terminal(12) is formed on an inner circumference of a camera mounting hole(11) comprised on one side of a mobile communication terminal to detach a camera assembly(20), transmits a photographing mode start signal, and receives an image signal from the camera assembly(20). The second input/output terminal(23) is formed with a protruded camera connector(22) to be inserted into the camera mounting hole(11), photographs an image by receiving the photographing mode start signal when contacting with the first input/output terminal(12), and transmits the photographed image to the mobile communication terminal.
