PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a triplet luminescent material having carbazolediyl groups as repeating units, which luminescent material can give a luminescent element capable of stably exhibiting expected performances when used as a luminescent layer of the element. SOLUTION: The subject complex composition comprises a polymer compound containing repeating units represented by formula (1) [wherein Ar<SB>1</SB>and Ar<SB>2</SB>are each a trivalent aromatic hydrocarbon group or a trivalent heterocyclic group; Ar<SB>3</SB>is an aromatic hydrocarbon group or a heterocyclic group, provided that Ar<SB>3</SB>has a group such as an alkyl group, an alkoxyl group, an alkylthio group, an alkylsilyl group, an alkylamino group, an aryl group, an aryloxy group, or an arylalkyl group on the ring; X is a single bond or a bonding group] and a metal complex which emits light from an excited triplet state.
