PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin-film magnetic head capable of increasing magnetizing efficiency and properly securing insulation between a coil and a magnetic pole layer. SOLUTION: A first insulating layer 58 made of an inorganic insulating material is formed on a layered body 62, and a second insulating layer 63 made of an organic insulating material is formed on both sides more than the end surfaces of both sides of the layered body 62 from ends 58a of both sides of the first insulating layer 58 in a track width direction. A second coil piece 56 is disposed on the first and second insulating layers. Thus, an increase in magnetizing efficiency, and insulation between the layered body 62 and the second coil piece 56 are effectively secured. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
