<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device and a control method for an automobile capable of reducing a load of a synchronous device and preventing burning of the synchronous device. <P>SOLUTION: A condition determining means 301 detects or estimates a condition of a friction surface of the synchronous devices 51-56. A synchronous device selecting means 302 selects the synchronous device formed with an intermediate transmission route in response to a parameter showing a condition of the friction surface detected or estimated by the condition determining means 301.
