PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device and a control method for an automobile capable of reducing a load of a synchronous device and preventing burning of the synchronous device.

SOLUTION: A condition determining means 301 detects or estimates a condition of a friction surface of the synchronous devices 51-56. A synchronous device selecting means 302 selects the synchronous device formed with an intermediate transmission route in response to a parameter showing a condition of the friction surface detected or estimated by the condition determining means 301. An engine torque control means 303 reduces the torque of an engine in response to a parameter showing the condition detected or estimated by the condition determining means 301.
