PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a winding type storage battery having a strip-like electrode plate capable of stable winding in which the problem is reduced that if there is no vertical crosspiece at the winding start section of the current collector of the electrode plate, the active material easily falls off and the electrode plate strength is weak, and when the winding start section contacts the winding shaft, it is pressed down too much and the crosspieces penetrate the separator, bringing about short circuit and irregularity of the position of the lug of the current collector, in the storage battery having an electrode plate group of winding structure winding the strip-like positive and negative electrode plates through a separator. SOLUTION: The current collector of the positive electrode plate and/or the current collector of the negative electrode plate comprise columns of vertical crosspieces of which positions are different at the top and the bottom and has at least one vertical crosspiece at the winding start section.
