<p>An ultrasonic probe improved in the directivity of the ultrasonic transmitting beam by reducing the grating lobe when ultrasonic waves are emitted. The ultrasonic probe 1 has a plurality of oscillators 2 that emit ultrasonic waves and at the same time receive reflected echoes. It also has a backing material 3 at the back of the oscillators 2 and, at their front, an acoustic matching layer and an acoustic lens. The oscillators 2 are formed in small blocks of a predetermined shape and many small block-shaped oscillators 2 are arranged spherically at the front side of the backing material 3 that is formed in a spherical plane projecting like a hemisphere. With this structure, by applying sending signals of the same phase to the many oscillators 2 and driving these oscillators, the sound pressures of the emitted ultrasonic waves propagate uniformly in all directions, allowing the point sound source transmission, reducing the grating lobe at time of emitting ultrasonic waves, and thereby improving the directivity of the transmitted beam of ultrasonic wave.</p> |
