PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a distance to and a location of a mobile station in a base station arrangement for the purpose of efficiently utilizing radio resources for information communications in spread spectrum cellular mobile communications. SOLUTION: While paying attention to an information quantity that is generally required for a range finding signal but is sufficiently reduced in comparison with an information quantity required for information communications, a sufficiently long symbol cycle, namely, spreading code cycle is taken for the range finding signal to obtain a sufficiently great spreading code bit length, namely, spreading code gain, thereby extending a communicable distance of the range finding signal compatibly with reducing an interference quantity.
