PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester resin having high glass transition temperature and useful as an engineering plastic material. SOLUTION: The polyester resin having a glass transition temperature of as high as≥170°C is produced by the alternate ring-opening copolymerization of (A) an alicyclic epoxide having 5-membered ring structure and (B) a cyclic acid anhydride. A polyester having higher glass transition temperature can be produced by adding a small amount of an alicyclic diepoxide or a cyclic tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride to the component (A) or (B).
