A process for imparting a desired degree of stretchability and stretch recovery to a nonwoven material by shrinking the nonwoven material by heating the material in a wet treating step and then permitting the material to dry in a relaxed state and a nonwoven material exhibiting such stretchability and stretch recovery properties.
