The invention relates to a gas-measuring device (1) and a gas-meter housing (20) providing improved fire protection. Already known means for protecting gas pipelines (5) use thermally expendable materials which block the gas pipeline (5) in case of fire. According to said invention, a thermally expendable material (6) is arranged inside the gas-meter housing (20) which is constructed in such a way that it is fire-resistant and provided with an encapsulation volume (200) for said expendable material (6). In case of fire, the expendable material (6) seals gas-leaking holes (20a, 20b, 20c) in the gas-meter housing (20) by irreversible expansion thereof in the encapsulation volume (200). In case of fire, the embodiments consist, for example in sealing a gas input orifice (3a), a gas output orifice (3b) or an electric bushing (3c) in the gas-meter housing (20), and in arranging the thermally expendable material (6) near the gas-leaking holes (20a, 20b, 20c) and/or on the internal surface of the encapsulation volume (200). Said invention makes it possible to produce a simple and efficient fire protection system.
