PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make iris control not to follow up with respect to a temporary fluctuation in brightness level due to disturbance and a periodic variation in the brightness of only part of an object; and to enhance the followup ability of the iris control with respect to a variation in the brightness of the object, itself in an imaging device with an automatic iris function. SOLUTION: The imaging device comprises: an optical lens system 11 having an automatic iris mechanism; an imaging element 12 emitting incident light to the optical lens system 11; a signal processor circuit 15 generating a video signal from the output signal of the imaging element 12; and an iris control means 17 controlling the automatic iris mechanism by restricting the degree of followup to the level of a brightness signal in accordance with the magnitude of a time-wise variation in the level of the brightness signal generated by the signal processor circuit 15.
