PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new antiviral agent for treating and preventing viral infectious diseases. SOLUTION: Selegiline or its pharmaceutically acceptable salt has suppressing action on proliferation of viruses and is useful as an antiviral agent for human or animals such as livestock or pets for treating or preventing the viral infectious diseases and can particularly be expected as an excellent antiviral agent exhibiting therapeutic effects combined with effect on complications involving a central nervous system, e.g. influenzal encephalopathy.
