The production of a metallic layer comprises forming structures in the longitudinal direction so that both regions have parallel upper and/or lower support surfaces in the longitudinal direction in the region of the peaks and/or troughs independent of the material thicknesses. The metallic layer (8) has corrugation troughs (11) and corrugation peaks (10) in partial regions with an upper support surface (17) made from the corrugation peaks and a lower support surface (22) made from the corrugation troughs. The metallic layer has a first region (2) with a first material thickness (D1) and a second region (3) with a second material thickness (D2) which is different from the first material thickness. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a metallic layer produced by the above process; and (2) a honeycomb body partially made from the metallic layer.
