PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To completely erase data of a recording medium such as a hard disk to prevent restoration of data and then to give another meaning while facilitating its confirmation. SOLUTION: Random number values are first written in the whole erase object area of the hard disk (S301). Specific information is written in the first and last parts of each sector, and fixed values of "0" or "1" are written in other areas (S302-S304). When writing of one sector part is completed, whether or not writing of the whole erase object area is completed is determined, and if not being completed, the erasure processing is repeatedly performed (S302-S304).
