PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a bristle material for a brush, which is not only highly safe and has antimicrobial properties but also is readily made into a tapered shape with a solution of caustic soda, and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The method for producing the bristle material for the brush having antimicrobial properties comprises kneading a polyester resin with an oxide solid solution composed of Zn and/or Cu as a main active ingredient and/or an antimicrobial agent containing a hydrotalcite compound and subjecting the resin to melt spinning into a monofilament shape.
