The invention relates to a method for determining a measuring interval (tM), during which a measuring value is produced by a field apparatus (1) used in process automation technology, wherein the field apparatus (1) communicates its measuring values at given communication intervals (tK) via a field bus ( 5) after receiving a query from a central control unit (10) regarding its measuring values. According to the invention, the following communication interval (tf) from at least two communication intervals (tK, t'K) is determined by approximation and the measuring interval (tM) is determined on the basis of the communication interval (tf) determined by approximation.
