PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a convenient and reliable technique of checking a gas detector with respect to normality of operation and occurrence of choking of duct lines. SOLUTION: The generator has a generator body equipped with a storing portion 13 capable of storing a liquid for evaporation to supply a checking gas to a gas detector having a drain-recovering portion for draining, an evaporating portion 14 being adjacent to the storing portion 13 and evaporating the liquid, a capillary portion 15 sucking the liquid from the storing portion 13 to the evaporating portion 14, a spreading portion 16 spreading the liquid sucked from the capillary portion 15 into the evaporating portion 14, and an introducing portion 17a for introduction of air into the evaporating portion 14, and a discharging portion 17b for discharge of air from the evaporating portion 14.
