The actuator has an electric motor (1) controlled by a computer (2) in response to a set position for the actuator. An encoder (3) fixed to the motor faces detectors that deliver digital signals representing direct and quadrature positions. A signal processor (5) determines the actual position of the encoder and a comparator (6) compares this with the theoretical position.
