PURPOSE: An apparatus for informing IP allocation and a link state of an ADSL modem for use in a credit card checking machine and a method for the same are provided to exactly recognize the current state of the ADSL modem by driving the sound device in response to the state of the link and using LED to display the state of ip reception. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for informing IP allocation and a link state of an ADSL modem for use in a credit card checking machine includes an AP controller(11), a light emitting diode(LED) controller(12), a protocol controller(13), a sound controller(14) and an ADSL line controller(15). The AP controller(11) generates a control signal to turn on and off the LED and generates the control signals so as to generate or stop the sound in response to the link state of the digital subscriber line access multiplier(DSLAM). The LED controller(12) turns on and off the control signal in response to the LED turn on and off control signal transmitted from the AP controller(11). The protocol controller(13) informs the allocation and release of the IP to the AP controller(11). The sound controller(14) drives or stops the sound generation unit(19) in response to the sound generation or stop control signal transmitted from the AP controller(11). And, the ADSL line controller(15) transmits the signal requiring the link connection to the DSLAM and controls the transmission line so as to transmit the connection state of the link to the AP controller(11).
